About the MitoCanada Foundation

MitoCanada is a not-for-profitorganization, established in 2010. Representing patients, families andcaregivers across Canada, they are committed to ensuring peoplediagnosed with mitochondrial diseasesare informed and are given the chanceto live the best life possible.

MitoCanada has dedicated over $1 million to fund research anddevelopment, continues to build strongpan-Canadian mitochondrial diseaseawareness within communities whiledelivering impactful patient programsand resources.

Their mission is to

Advance research, awareness and support for families with a loved one who has been diagnosed with mitochondrial disease.

Most of the fundrasing for MitoCanada is done by TEAMmito, a group of dedicatedvolunteers from across Canada whoharness their passion for sports into fundraising opportunities. Blaine Penny, the co-founderof MitoCanada and TEAMmito, startedthe organization when his 4-year-oldson was tragically diagnosed withmitochondrial disease.

My Contributions

During an eight week period during the summer of 2018 funded by the Canadian government through a program known as Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ), I designed numerous printed materials and digital assets. I created new brochures, prize posters, PowerPoint slide templates, and redesigned their YouTube and Facebook pages.

At the end of the eight weeks, there was a fundraising event at Glendale Golf Course in Hamilton, Ontario where I took photos of the people at the event.

YouTube Page

One of the first assignments that I was given was to refresh (Team) MitoCanada's YouTube page by changing the visual appearance of the video thumbnails, profile icon, and banner.

The previous appearance of the page looked less than undesirable and urgently needed to be fixed if this is to be a significant medium of communication.

Social Media Banners

As well as the YouTube page, I also improved their social media banners that they use on Facebook and Twitter, including ones for holidays.

These were done for both Mito and Team Mito.

Editorial Design

Many parts of my work involved designing documents and presentation templates. I designed raffle posters, signage, and brochures.
